A baby? That was the only thought that I had when I left Yusef’s house. I mean, I wasn’t mad. Disappointed maybe, but not mad. The way his ex acted back at the house, I knew for a fact that if Yusef and I pursued a relationship, she’d be a problem. I was lost in my head as I made my way back to the shop to drop Yusef’s car off and to retrieve mine. I was glad that I was done for the day because I didn’t have the oomph to do much of anything. When I got back to Inkscape, I got out the car, locked it, and took Danger the keys.

“Hey, can you make sure that Yusef gets his car keys?” I asked Danger who was sitting behind his desk.

“Yeah. I got you.”

“Thank you.” I nodded.

“Look, Si. I’m not tryna get in y’all’s business or anything, but don’t write my boy off just yet. When he called and told me you were dropping off his keys, he filled me in on Bellami and her bullshit. Don’t buy into it. She didn’t appreciate my boy, and now she’s mad someone else has his attention. He’s a good dude, so at least hear him out.” I heard everything that Danger was saying, but I still needed to process all of this. We were not even in a relationship yet, and the drama had already started.

“I hear you, and I’ll give it some consideration.” He nodded at my response, and I left him in his office as I headed out.

When I got in the car, my phone chimed, letting me know I had a new message.

Yusef: Hey…I just wanted to apologize again for that bullshit you had to witness. In a way it was good that you did bc you’ll see I wasn’t lying bout her looney ass. Please forgive me so that I can make it up to you…

I read Yusef’s message but declined to respond right away. I still needed to wrap my head around all of this. If I responded now, my answer would feel forced, and I didn’t want that.
